SpeedTest Pro
A native Android network utility: live speed gauge, ping, download and upload tests, cell tower information, and test history with charts.
- Kotlin
- Jetpack Compose
- Cloudflare speed endpoints
Overview
SpeedTest Pro is a native Android app (Kotlin + Jetpack Compose) for understanding a mobile connection: a live speed gauge, ping, download and upload measurements against Cloudflare endpoints, cell tower information, and a history of past tests with charts.
Version 1.0.0 was delivered as a debug APK (about 19 MB). It is a working prototype used on a real phone, not a Play Store release.
Problem / Goal
Most speed test apps answer one question (how fast, right now) and forget everything else. On a phone, the useful questions are broader: which tower am I on, and is this connection getting better or worse over time?
Approach
- Native Compose UI with a live gauge, so measurement feedback is continuous rather than a spinner and a number.
- Measurements against Cloudflare endpoints for consistent, publicly documented test servers.
- Local test history with charts, so results accumulate into a picture of the connection.

Constraints & challenges
A gauge that stays honest
A speed gauge animates numbers that arrive unevenly from the network. The display had to feel live without inventing smoothness the measurements did not have.
Outcome & lessons
- 01Utilities earn trust by remembering: history turned a one-off test into a diagnostic tool.
- 02Measure against endpoints you can name and document.
